(Monte Carlo) Stefanos Tsitsipas, 5and champion and defending champion, qualified for the third round of the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo on Tuesday by beating 6-3, 6-0 the Italian Fabio Fognini (32and), its predecessor on the charts.

“I had a good match, I played good tennis,” welcomed the Greek after a quiet start.
“It’s never easy, especially a first match,” insisted the 23-year-old who won his first Masters 1000 title last year on Monegasque soil.
Fognini won the 2019 edition before the 2020 edition was canceled due to COVID-19. In 2021, the tournament was held behind closed doors.
