(Monte-Carlo) Stan Wawrinka, winner in 2014, did not have the slightest chance of making good use of the pass from which he benefited so much Alex De Minaur (11e world) was superior to win 6-3, 6-0, Tuesday in the first round of the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo.
The 39-year-old Swiss, former 3e world dropped to 79e rank, was overtaken by the Australian who only took 62 minutes to win.
Wawrinka, double Grand Slam winner, made a lot of unforced errors (28 against 18 for his opponent) and conceded too many winning points (12 against 4 successful) to threaten his opponent, who won this year’s title in Acapulco (tough).
In the next round, De Minaur will face the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (26e).
