An 83-year-old man was charged with attempted murder on Sunday after shooting his wife in Mont-Tremblant, in the Laurentians, on Sunday. The victim’s condition is still considered critical by the authorities.
Bernard Devoe was arrested and then met by Sûreté du Québec investigators during the day. He eventually appeared by videoconference to face an attempted murder charge.
The man should be back in court on Monday at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse, and other charges could then be filed against him. He has no criminal record.
Around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, the police were called to a home on rue Saint-Roch, in Mont-Tremblant, where they found a woman injured by a projectile from a firearm.
The victim, who is named Melbita Devoe, 51, according to the indictment, was taken to hospital. We still feared for his life late Sunday evening. According to our information, it is the wife of the accused.
A scene was erected at the scene so that investigators and forensic identification technicians could clarify the circumstances of the crime.
