Since Tuesday, staff at Mont Saint-Michel Abbey (Manche) have been on strike to obtain better working conditions. Thursday, December 28, the guided tours did not take place, but entry was free for visitors, reports France Bleu.
Ticket office staff want better working conditions, salary increases and additional hires. For several months, discussions have been underway with the Directorate of Historical Monuments to obtain progress in three areas.
Unlimited strike notice
“We are calling for new hires: at least four to strengthen the team of guides, but also one to support the agent in charge of maintaining the site. The unions are also calling for permanent contracts for temporary workers regularly employed in the abbey . And then we demand that the arduous nature of the work be taken into account.”explains to France Bleu Sabrina, representative of the abbey staff for the Sud Culture Solidaires union.
Having obtained nothing so far, the employees have filed an unlimited strike notice.
