The agents of the Sûreté du Québec first tried to intercept the driver, around 9 a.m., on chemin Adolphe-Chapleau. Instead of stopping, the man continued on his way.
“Getting to rue du Pont, the fugitive lost control of his van and left the road,” said SQ spokesperson Sergeant Béatrice Dorsainville.
He managed to free himself and hit the patrol car before continuing on his way to Route 309, near Ferme-Neuve, where a second collision with the police vehicle occurred.
This is when the man from L’Ascension was arrested and brought to the police station. He failed a breathalyzer with a rate twice the legal limit, said the SQ, which reported no injuries.
The driver remains in custody and is scheduled to appear by videoconference this Sunday on possible charges of dangerous driving, flight, assault with a weapon and driving while impaired by alcohol. His car was also seized.
