Mont-Blanc factory in Chef-du-Pont evacuated after chemical spill

The accident took place shortly before 11 a.m. this Friday, September 30, at the Mont-Blanc dairy in Chef-du-Pont. A container of around 20 liters containing a disinfectant spilled into a 1,000 m2 building. After the emergency services were called, staff members in the affected building evacuated the premises.

The factory completely evacuated

35 firefighters responded to the scene. The mobile chemical intervention cell was notably mobilised. The emergency services then decided toevacuate the entire factory. 23 people were taken care of by the SAMU doctor and the firefighters’ nurse. After assessment, none had to be evacuated to a hospital.

No chemical risk

The firefighters proceeded to the recognition of the places to assess the risks in the room, equipped with insulating breathing apparatus so as not to be exposed. They then discovered a slick of product on the ground and proceeded to rinse and dilute the product before ventilating the premises. Readings were also taken and they all turned out to be negative..

As production was shut down at the time of the incident, it was not impacted.
