While nearly 1,500 cases of monkey pox have been identified in France, only 30,000 doses of vaccine are currently available according to the Directorate General of Health. A stock deemed too low by doctors and associations.

The outbreak of monkeypox cases worries the WHO. In one week, these cases have almost doubled in France. And to get vaccinated, you have to be extra patient: out of 1,500 cases identified, only 30,000 doses would be available. At the Rouen University Hospital, the first volunteers presented themselves this week. “I know people who have had it, it’s not nice to have pustular pimples on your body, it’s not glamorous”, explains one of them.

While the contagious disease currently affects mainly a homosexual male population (98% of cases), the association for the fight against AIDS ‘Act Up’ is concerned about the insufficient number of doses. “It is not at all sufficient. Especially since it is necessary to take into consideration certain audiences and the third dose for immunocompromised people or people living with HIV. When we are told 30,000 doses, we know very well that it will not be enough in the days and weeks to come.”, explains Marc-Antoine Bartoli, prevention coordinator of the association.
