Saturday July 30, monkey pox continues to gain ground in France. Abroad, one patient died in Brazil while two people died in Spain. These are the first deaths linked to the epidemic in Europe.
Five people with monkeypox have already died in Africa. A 41-year-old man, also a carrier of the disease, died in Brazil. “He is a patient with comorbidities and a history of chemotherapy treatment. There is reason to believe that the cause of death was related to the virus.”says Daniel Pereira, the Brazilian Minister of Health. Another country where people infected with the virus have died is Spain. However, authorities did not give specific causes of death.
The epidemic is progressing on a global scale and 22,717 cases have so far been recorded on the planet. The number of cases is highest in the United States, with 5,189 people who have contracted the disease. Spain is in second place while France has 1,955 cases. “Mathematicallythere will be severe evolutions of this infection in very immunocompromised people. Apart from these particular people, in the general population, there is no reason to be worried”tempers the Professor Jean-Daniel Hare, infectious disease specialist. In France, the vaccination campaign is intensifying.
