The reaction was quick. Mohamed Camara will have to explain himself. The disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) announced on Wednesday May 22 that the AS Monaco player would be summoned to its next meeting, Thursday May 30.

The Malian midfielder masked the logo of the campaign to combat homophobia led by the LFP and plastered it on his team’s jersey, Sunday May 19, during the match between Monaco and Nantes (4-0) at the occasion of the 34th and final day of Ligue 1. As an organization, we support the action of the League“, said Thiago Scuro, the general director of the Rocher club. Embarrassed, the leader had put forward “religious reasons” to Camara’s gesture.

Several associations fighting against homophobia reacted very strongly. The Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castera, called for sanctions against the offender.
