Monday night in the NHL | Norris wins Senators shootout

Josh Norris scored the decisive goal in a shootout and the Ottawa Senators posted a third straight win, 3-2 over the New Jersey Devils on Monday night.

Senators ‘Tim Stützle and Devils’ Tomas Tatar also hit the target in the shootout.

Drake Batherson and Brady Tkachuk scored for the Senators (7-15-1).

Goalkeeper Anton Forsberg blocked 22 pucks in regulation and overtime, and closed the door on Andrea Johnsson in a shootout to secure the win.

Damon Severson and Nathan Bastian responded for the Devils (9-9-5), who suffered a fourth loss in a row. Mackenzie Blackwood made 21 saves.

Originally, this game was scheduled to take place on November 16 but had to be postponed due to an outbreak of COVID-19 among the Senators.

Severson put the Devils ahead after just 35 seconds with a shot from the blue line.

Batherson tied the score at 7:15 of the second period, but Bastian hit back just 65 seconds later.

Tkachuk scored his eighth goal of the season at 12:02 into the middle period.

John Carlson ends shootout debate

John Carlson tied the game in the second period and scored the deciding shootout goal to lead the Washington Capitals to a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Monday night.

Tom Wilson scored a 100e career goal in the NHL and Carl Hagelin has hit the target for the first time this season for the Capitals.

Alex Ovechkin has collected his 20e and 21e campaign assists and he hit the mark in the shootout. Daniel Sprong also scored in the shootout for the Capitals, who are 2-0-1 in their four-game stay at home.

Ilya Samsonov stopped 31 shots in front of the Washington team.

Sonny Milano had a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who were starting a five-game road stretch. Vinni Lettieri and Josh Manson also put the needle on while Trevor Zegras prepared two goals for his own.

Rickard Rakell and Troy Terry found the back of the net in a shootout. John Gibson blocked 26 pucks for the Ducks.
