Monday in the NHL | The Senators come from behind and win 4-3 against the Predators

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Senators erased a three-goal deficit with an unanswered four-goal surge that Claude Giroux put the finishing touch on in overtime Monday in a 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators.

Drake Batherson, Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk also scored for the Senators. Jonas Korpisalo repelled 18 shots, relieving Mads Sogaard. The latter gave up three times on 11 shots in the first period.

Michael McCarron, Philip Tomasino and Yakov Trenin gave the Predators a 3-0 lead in the first period. Juuse Saros made 31 saves.

With a 3-3 tie on the board after two periods, both teams had good scoring chances in the third period, but were unable to hit the target.

Batherson scored the Senators’ first goal at 5:21 of the second period by recovering a bouncing puck in front of Saros. Stutzle closed the gap to one goal at 9:20 with his 11e in the countryside.

The Senators completed their comeback when Josh Norris won a faceoff late in the second. Tkachuk threaded the needle for a 21e times since the start of the campaign.

The Predators opened the scoring at 8:26 in the first when Roman Josi made a shot from the center of the offensive zone. McCarron recovered the puck to beat Sogaard.

Tomasino made it 2-0 by beating Quebec defender Thomas Chabot, then Trenin increased the visitors’ lead by scoring while the goalkeeper was completely out of position.

Senators defenseman Travis Hamonic was still out with an upper-body injury. Dominik Kubalik, for his part, made a return to the game.

The Senators will now face the Red Wings in Detroit on Wednesday. The same day, the Predators will host the Los Angeles Kings.
