Monday in the NHL | The Kraken beats the Lightning for the first time

Jared McCann scored on a power play at 2:53 of overtime Monday night and the Seattle Kraken defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3.

While Nick Paul was also in the penalty box for hooking, McCann scored his fifth goal of the season with a shot from the left faceoff circle.

In doing so, the Kraken earned their first victory in five attempts against the Lightning since entering the NHL in 2021.

Brian Dumoulin, Yanni Gourde and Kailer Yamamoto scored the Kraken’s other goals, all in the first period. Goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer made 33 saves and scored his first victory in five decisions this season.

The Lightning fell behind 3-1 after 20 minutes, but Alex Barré-Boulet closed the gap by finding the back of the net during a power play at 3:40 of the middle period.

Brandon Hagel added the tying goal with 5:32 remaining in the third period.

Yamamoto set up Gourde’s goal at 13:08 of the opening period to give the Kraken a 2-0 lead, before hitting the target on a power play at 15:52.

Dumoulin scored the first goal of the game for the Kraken.

Tanner Jeannot scored in the first period for the Lightning in addition to assisting on Barré-Boulet’s goal.

In the defeat, goaltender Jonas Johansson, author of two consecutive shutouts, blocked 40 pucks.

Red Wings beat Islanders in overtime

Lucas Raymond scored at 1:25 of the overtime period and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the New York Islanders 4-3 on Monday night.

Daniel Sprong, Jake Walman and JT Compher scored the other goals for the Red Wings, who trailed 2-0 in the third period.

Goaltender Ville Husso stopped 37 shots to help the Red Wings end a three-game losing streak (0-2-1).

Casey Cizikas, Noah Dobson and Bo Horvat responded for the Islanders, who had won their previous two games. In the defeat, Ilya Sorokin blocked 32 pucks.

Horvat’s goal allowed the Islanders to tie the game 3-3 with 4:11 left in regulation.

In overtime, after the Islanders were unable to get the puck out of their territory, Raymond accepted a pass from Compher and beat Sorokin with a shot from the right flank, for his third goal of the season.

Rangers claim fifth straight victory

Mika Zibanejad scored in overtime to give the New York Rangers a fifth straight victory, this time by a score of 3-2 against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday.

Rangers forward Artemi Panarin scored on his birthday and added two assists to extend his point streak to nine this season. Panarin, who celebrated 32 years, increased his record to five goals and 15 points.

Chris Kreider scored his sixth goal of the season and Igor Shesterkin stopped 27 pucks for the Rangers, who concluded their five-game road trip, their longest of the campaign. K’Andre Miller had two assists.

This is the first time in their history that the Rangers have won every game on a road trip that includes at least five.

David Gustaffson and Nikolaj Ehlers found the back of the net for the Jets in front of 11,898 fans gathered at the Canada Life Centre. It was the second largest crowd of the season in Winnipeg.

The amphitheater seats 15,325 and the peak this season is 13,410 people, for the opening game against the Florida Panthers.

Cole Perfetti had two assists and Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves for the Jets, who have collected at least one point in their last five outings (3-0-2).

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and the score remained the same until the third.

Panarin scored the first goal of the game when he redirected a pass from former Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba into the net with 1:36 remaining in the first period.

Gustaffson tied the game 28 seconds later with his second of the season.

Ehlers beat Shesterkin around the net at 5:08 in the third to give the Jets the lead. It was his second of the campaign and his 400e career point.

Kreider deflected an Adam Fox shot on the power play to make it 2-2 at 13:12.

The Ducks win 4-3 against the Penguins

Mason McTavish scored shorthanded with 11.9 seconds left and the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on Monday.

The Penguins took advantage of a 1:49 stretch with two extra men due to a tripping penalty given to McTavish and another penalty to Sam Carrick for delaying the game. Adam Henrique intercepted a pass and handed the puck to McTavish, who beat Tristan Jarry on a breakaway.

It was McTavish’s second goal of the game and his fifth of the season. McTavish and Ryan Strome both extended their point streaks to five games.

Frank Vatrano scored his ninth and Jakob Silfverberg moved the ropes with his 700e game with the Ducks.

John Gibson had made six saves when he had to leave the game due to an upper body injury in the first period. Lukas Dostal then stopped 32 pucks for the Ducks, who swept a four-game road series. It was the fifth time, and the first since the 2013-14 season, that they swept a streak of at least four games on the road.

Erik Karlsson scored his second of the season and his first in front of his fans in Pittsburgh. Evgeni Malkin threaded the needle on the power play, helping the Penguins end a streak of 16 power plays without scoring.

Radim Zohorna also scored for the Penguins, who have lost their second straight game and five of their last six.

Sidney Crosby was complicit in a goal and took alone the 15the ranks in NHL history in assists with 957, surpassing Hall of Famer and former teammate Mark Recchi.

Jarry made 23 saves for the Penguins.

Bruins defeat Panthers in overtime

Pavel Zacha scored with 84 seconds left in overtime and the Boston Bruins erased a two-goal deficit to defeat the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Monday.

Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy also scored for the Bruins, who remain undefeated in regulation time in nine games this season (8-0-1). Linus Ullmark blocked 36 shots against Bruins scorers during the last NHL playoff tournament.

Aleksander Barkov scored a goal and added an assist and Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves for the Panthers, who eliminated the Bruins in seven games in the first round before reaching the Stanley Cup final last spring.

Barkov gave the Panthers the lead after six minutes of play. He allowed his team to make it 2-0 with five minutes to play in the first when he took advantage of a Matthew Poitras turnover behind the net to put the score back. puck to Sam Reinhart.

Marchand reduced the gap by accepting a pass from Jake DeBrusk at the start of the second period. McAvoy tied the game in the third after starting the Bruins’ zone exit.

Late goal gives Hurricanes victory over Flyers

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Monday night.

Teuvo Teravainen broke the game’s tie with 3:47 left in the third period and the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Monday night.

Stefan Noesen and Michael Bunting also scored for the Hurricanes. Goalkeeper Frederik Andersen made 26 saves.

Owen Tippett and Garnet Hathaway scored for the Flyers, who have lost four of their last five outings. Carter Hart blocked 31 pucks.

The game was very evenly divided between the two teams until the final moments of the third period. However, as the game moved into the opponent’s zone, Teravainen received a pass from Jesperi Kotkaniemi and fired a shot that slipped between the left post and Hart’s stick.

The Hurricanes secured the victory by controlling the puck, making it difficult for the Flyers to replace Hart with a sixth forward.

The Flyers were unable to get a single shot on goal during the last five minutes and 27 seconds of the game.
