Quebecer Jonathan Marchessault scored 49 seconds into overtime and the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the St. Louis Blues 2-1 on Monday.

Pavel Dorofeyev also scored and Logan Thompson stopped 31 pucks to help the Golden Knights record their third straight victory and sixth in eight games. The Nevada team also increased its lead to five points over the Blues, in last place among the teams drafted in the Western Association.

Brandon Saad threaded the needle for the home favorites and Jordan Binnington finished the game with 32 saves. The Blues had won five of their last seven meetings before this duel.

Pavel Buchnevich had a chance to end the game when the referees awarded him a penalty shot during the overtime period. Thompson, however, made a glove save to put an end to the threat.

Just 19 seconds later, Marchessault recovered a loose puck to score his 39e net of the countryside.

Blues center Oskar Sundqvist left the game in the second period with a lower body injury after being tackled by Brayden McNabb.
