The Carolina Hurricanes gave the Washington Capitals a glimpse of their firepower should they ever face each other in the playoffs.

Martin Necas scored twice, Sebastian Aho scored his 29and net of the season and the Hurricanes defeated the Capitals 6-1 on Monday in a fiery duel between two teams that could meet in the first round of the playoffs.

The Hurricanes’ first win in four games this season against the Capitals was clouded by an injury to center Jesperi Kotkaniemi. He was hurt by a body check from Lars Eller with 1.8 seconds left.

Derek Stepan, Brett Pesce and Brady Skjei also hit the mark for the Hurricanes.

Frederik Andersen stopped 25 of 26 shots for the Hurricanes.

Tom Wilson was the Capitals’ lone scorer.

Vitek Vanecek was pulled from the game after giving up five goals on 23 shots. Ilya Samsonov blocked five shots in relief.
