” Finally. It’s crazy to be here now,” Marc-André Fleury told the Minnesota media.

The Quebec goaltender took second place alone in the history of the National Hockey League with a 552e victory, Monday evening. He signed his 74 in passinge career shutout in the Minnesota Wild’s 5-0 win over the New York Islanders.

“I try to work hard every day, do my best and be proud to win, be proud of my team, and what a feeling it is to have the crowd, 18,000 people, chanting your name, Fleury added. I have the chills. What else in life would allow you to experience that? I will cherish this evening for a long time.”

Fleury stopped 21 pucks to pass Patrick Roy in second place. Martin Brodeur is far ahead, with 691 victories. Asked by Michael Russo of The Athletic to know if he was aiming for the top of the rankings, Fleury joked that he “needs 15 more years”.

Nicknamed “Flower” in the United States, the 39-year-old Quebecer received his first encouragement after a short-handed save in the second period when the crowd chanted his name.

The chants in his honor intensified in the final minutes and his teammates mobbed him in the semicircle for hugs after the final whistle.

“It’s so cool to be a part of the team and play with him,” Jonas Bodin said. He’s probably the best guy I’ve played with on the team. He cares about the team and he’s a good guy. I am very happy for him. It’s really cool to play with a guy like that.”

“He’s an even better guy than a goalie, and that says a lot when you have the second best goalie in the world… so far,” added Mats Zuccarello. We will see. He’s getting younger and younger, so you never know. It’s really special for us to be a part of this. This accomplishment is incredible. »
