Monday in the NHL | First NHL shutout for Matt Murray

Matt Murray blocked 23 shots in his first NHL shutout and the Dallas Stars defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-0 on Monday.

It was a second victory in four games for the 25-year-old Albertan, who was undrafted.

Roope Hintz and Radek Faksa scored shorthanded. Other goals came from Tyler Seguin and Jason Robertson.

Marc-André Fleury made 16 saves, who would have passed Patrick Roy for second place in goalie history for victories if the Wild had won.

Fleury joined Roy with 551 wins on Saturday in Columbus.

With nine shorthanded goals, Dallas is tied for second in the NHL at this level this season.

Pettersson and Hoglander score two goals each in Canucks win

Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander each scored two goals, Thatcher Demko blocked 39 shots and the Vancouver Canucks defeated the New York Rangers 6-3 on Monday.

JT Miller and Brock Boeser also scored, while Pettersson, Boeser and Filip Hronek all had two assists.

Vincent Trocheck scored twice and Artemi Panarin also found the back of the net for the Rangers, who have lost two games in a row for only the second time this season.

Alexis Lafrenière collected two assists.

Trocheck gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 3:38 in the first period. Mika Zibanejad and Panarin had assists.

Panarin extended his number of consecutive games with at least one point to eight.

Igor Shesterkin made 20 saves.

The Penguins have a 4-1 advantage over the Flyers

The Penguins celebrate their victory.

Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night.

Rickard Rakell, Erik Karlsson and Chad Ruhwedel also scored for the Penguins. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 36 shots.

Owen Tippett scored for the Flyers, who have lost seven of their last nine games. Carter Hart stopped 35 pucks.

The rivalry between the two teams was felt, as several melee broke out after the whistles. In total, 11 penalties were awarded.

Malkin made it 4-1 after 4:29 of play in the third period, with his 15e goal of the season.

Rakell opened the scoring on the power play, after only 45 seconds of play.

The fourth and final duel of the season between the two teams will be played on February 25.
