Samuel Ersson scores first career shutout

Samuel Ersson stopped 28 shots in his first National League shutout on Monday, helping the Philadelphia Flyers win 4-0 over the Buffalo Sabres.

The 23-year-old Swede was drafted in the fifth round in 2018 by the Flyers.

Joel Farabee scored his ninth goal of the season, also assisting Noah Cates.

Zack MacEwen and Wade Allison also scored for the Flyers, who have won five of their last six games.

Craig Anderson made 34 saves for Buffalo, which suffered its first shutout this season.

Predators shut out Senators 3-0

Juuse Saros made 38 saves on Monday to guide the Nashville Predators to a 3-0 win over the Ottawa Senators.

The 27-year-old Finn signed a first shutout this season but a 19e in career.

Jérémy Lauzon had his second goal this season in the first period, 32 seconds after Roman Josi’s net.

Lauzon also hit the mark on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas.

Filip Forsberg completed the scoring in the third period. He leads his team with 16 goals in 2022-23.

Cam Talbot stopped 33 shots in a losing cause.

The Predators will be looking for a fifth straight win Wednesday night in Toronto. They will play in Montreal the next day.

Ottawa will be back in action on Thursday in Arizona.
