Historical. Since the introduction of best-of-five series in the Euroleague, never has a team managed to win Game 5 away. It is now done with the 80-79 victory of Fenerbahçe, Wednesday May 8, at the end of the suspense and after extra time. AS Monaco, which could have made history as the first team in the French championship to win two Final Fours in a row, ultimately became the first in the history of the competition to lose a match 5 at home. .

Monaco had the last possession in regulation time and overtime

Coming within one shot of elimination in Turkey, Friday May 3, during match 4, the Roca Team came close to escaping despite a completely absent three-point skill (26% – 5/19), at the opposite of Fenerbahçe (43% -15/35). Trailing by four points two minutes from time (63-67), Sasa Obradovic’s men got back in front 74 seconds from time thanks to a long shot from Mike James, followed by a well-felt floater from Elie Okobo (68 -67). After a winning shot from Scottie Wilbekin for the Turks, it was again the former Asvel player who put the scorers back at 0 with 43 seconds remaining (70-70), before missing the match point on the buzzer .

In overtime as in the rest of the match, the locals were in the lead for almost the entire period before giving in on two consecutive three-pointers from Nick Calathes to restore the advantage to Fener’ 20 seconds from time ( 79-80). The last possession of the match was therefore for Monaco, but did not end with a shot, Okobo stumbling on the defense, and losing a ball which was worth gold and a place in Berlin. After four seasons of absence, Fenerbahçe will return to the Final Four of the Euroleague to face Panathinaikos in the semi-final of the competition which it only won in 2017.
