Monaco delays PSG’s coronation by beating Lille

The Monegasques won (1-0) against Lille on Wednesday, and postponed by at least one day the twelfth coronation of PSG, which had swept away Lorient a little earlier.

Parisians will have to wait at least until Saturday. PSG, who had easily disposed of Lorient earlier in the evening (1-4), Wednesday April 24, needed Monaco not to win against Lille to offer themselves a twelfth championship coronation, at the end of the 29th day of Ligue 1. But the Monegasques decided otherwise, dismissing Lille (1-0) thanks to a goal from Youssouf Fofana on the hour mark.

PSG will therefore simply have to beat Le Havre on Saturday to validate their coronation. But with an advantage this time: it will be in front of his audience, with whom he will be able to immediately celebrate the 12th title in his history.

Fofana decisive, Ben Yedder clumsy

This Monegasque success, however, took a long time to emerge for Adi Hütter’s men. Exactly 61 minutes, when Youssouf Fofana came to slip in a precise left shot that Lucas Chevalier was unable to deflect.

Lille suffered a setback, after three convincing victories in Ligue 1 against Lens (2-1), Marseille (3-1) and Strasbourg (1-0). Virtually qualified in the Europa League, Paulo Fonseca’s men can eye third place in Brest, but are still the threat of Nice, who conceded a draw in Marseille, and who are four points behind.

If there is still a little suspense for the European Cups, and in particular to know who will accompany Paris in the Champions League next year, that for the champion title should find its epilogue on Saturday.
