Monaco continues, Montpellier and Angers are replaced, Nantes wins at the finish in Lorient … What to remember from the first matches of the 17th day

After the slap inflicted by Rennes on Saint-Etienne (5-0) at the start of the afternoon, Sunday 5 December, the other matches of this 17th day have reserved some interesting lessons, especially in the first half of the standings.

Third in Ligue 1 last season but nevertheless less lively since the start of the season, AS Monaco continues with a large home victory against Metz (4-0) and climbs back to 6th place, signing its 7th game in a row without defeat, in all competitions. Winner against Clermont (1-0), Montpellier is behind Niko Kovac’s men by climbing to 8th position just behind the Angevins who managed to win in Reims (1-2). In Lorient, the Merlus gave in at the end of the game against Wylan Cyprien and the neighbors from Nantes (0-1).

A health walk or almost at the Louis-II stadium. On a good series but sorely lacking in points in Ligue 1, the players of the Rock offered themselves an easy success this Sunday against the 19th in the championship, FC Metz. Sofiane Diop (1-0, 2nd), Kevin Volland from the penalty spot just before the break (2-0, 44th), Gelson Martins (3-0, 57th) and Wissam Ben Yedder (4-0, 87th) allow the ASM to return to 6th place (26 points), only three lengths from the podium.

The Angers SCO fought to the end. Despite a numerical superiority throughout the second part of the meeting, after the expulsion of Valon Berisha in the 36th minute, the players of Gerald Baticle sign their second away success of the season, almost four months after the first face in Strasbourg … on August 8. Carried by a Sofiane Boufal scorer on penalty then passer for the goal of Angelo Fulgini’s break in the last quarter of an hour, Angers returned to 7th place.

Not particularly inspired at La Mosson this Sunday, Téji Savanier’s teammates provided the essentials against Clermont and signed their second success of the week after their victory in Metz (1-3). A jewel of Sepe Elye Wahy in the 27th minute – a shot wound from the right into the skylight of Djoco – is enough for the happiness of the Hérault people. For the Auvergne, however, things got more complicated with an unsuccessful 7th game in Ligue 1.

Almost nothing. Until the spark signed Wylan Cyprien in the 83rd minute on the only shot on target from the Canaries against Lorient. Nantes can have a smile this Sunday and takes back three precious points which brings it back to Lyon (22 points), which challenges Bordeaux this Sunday evening. The black series continues, however, for the Hakes, beaten for the sixth time in a row in Ligue 1.
