“Finally !” must say to themselves the sprinters who have survived the vertiginous passes of the Alps and the Pyrenees. After having suffered a good part of the race, here they are finally in the spotlight, during this 19th stage of the Tour de France, Friday July 22. Between Castelnau-Magnoac and Cahors, the interest will be to know if the probable breakaway will go to the end of its effort or if it will be taken over by a peloton on a mission to crown the sprinters.
Apart from two fourth-category climbs that look very skinny, the course will be relatively flat, between the corn fields and the orchards of Gers or Tarn-et-Garonne. Among the riders likely to shine, a few sprint specialists are expected such as Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl), Dylan Groenewegen (BikeExchange-Jayco), Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) or Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies). If he has gas left after a stratospheric 18th stage, Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) intends to mix his green jersey with the party.
