The European Medicines Agency validated Wednesday, December 15 a third vaccine for booster doses, the Janssen. Today, only Pfizer and Moderna are used in France. Some would like to review the dosage of the latter, to better stimulate the immune system.

Moderna is the most delivered vaccine in France over the past two months. In the vaccination center of Neuville-en-Ferrain (North), Emmanuelle Trentesaux, nurse meticulously prepares the syringes. Along with the recall, there are recommendations. “For the booster dose of Moderna, we inject only half of the dose we injected for the first and second injections”, she explains.

In the first two injections, Moderna doses each included 100 micrograms of messenger RNA, the molecules that trigger the immune response. As a reminder, the health authorities have deemed sufficient a half-dose of 50 micrograms. Will it be effective against Omicron? According to one of the scenarios of the scientific council, it would be necessary to carry out the booster dose to 100 micrograms to be certain of conquering the variant.
