Model S and Model X | Tesla recalls 7,600 vehicles to replace airbag

(New York) Electric vehicle maker Tesla has initiated a recall in the United States of around 7,600 vehicles due to a risk of the driver’s side airbag tearing when deployed.

The recall concerns Model S and Model X manufactured between June and September 2021, specifies a document transmitted by Tesla to the American road safety agency (NHTSA).

“A tear in the fabric of the airbag can decrease the performance of the airbag during deployment, which can increase the risk of injury in a crash,” says the document dated Nov. 9. NHTSA acknowledged the recall in a letter dated Wednesday and released the documents in the wake.

The defect was first spotted in July by the supplier of the airbag during quality checks.

Tesla points out that to its knowledge, this potential defect has not caused any accidents or injuries, but wishes to replace the affected airbags as a precaution.
