Iranians have been mobilizing for two weeks against the regime and for women’s rights. Around the world, rallies are taking place to support women and salute their courage.
In Brussels (Belgium), Saturday October 1, 2,000 people mobilized to express their solidarity with the Iranian population after the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, who died after being arrested by the police, for a veil which did not cover her hair enough. “We are here to be the voice of the Iranian people, for the freedom of women but also to obtain even basic human rights, which the Iranian people do not have today.“, summarizes Ava Basiri, organizer of the mobilization.
The cause of the Iranian protesters has been supported around the world, from Tokyo (Japan) to Bucharest (Romania), via Berlin (Germany), as the German government calls for European sanctions against Iran. In Italy too, hundreds of people marched to show their support. Among the crowd were Iranian expatriates. “We try to win our freedom, like in other countries, because it’s really a necessity for women, who need to live as they want. We no longer want this government, we no longer want the ayatollahs“, explains Arezoo, who has been living in Italy for 13 years.
