War in Ukraine: mobilization for the return of prisoners – (FRANCEINFO)

Several people mobilized in Ukraine to demand the release of prisoners of war in Russia. Some relatives have not heard from them for two years.

In Dnipro (Ukraine), the cold and the snow have not discouraged the women, but also some men, who are fighting for their loved ones imprisoned in Russia to be released. To be noticed, around 150 of them lined up silently along the road. The objective is not to forget the approximately 3,500 Ukrainians taken prisoner in Russia, according to kyiv. “I don’t know where he is being held, I don’t know the state of health of my child, I don’t know anything. Almost two years of uncertainty, silence and pain“, explains Alina Kucher, mother of a prisoner of war.

“We have very little information”

Most of the prisoners were captured early in the war. Since then, their loved ones have had little or no news. “We have very little information. What we know is that he doesn’t have enough to eat and that he is being tortured.”, says Daria Voina, sister of a prisoner of war. L’Ukraine also holds Russian prisoners and exchanges sometimes take place between the two countries. The last one dates back to January 3: 230 Ukrainians were repatriated against 248 Russians.
