The project to build megabasins in Puy-de-Dôme faces opposition from environmental activists. They denounce an appropriation of water. These reservoirs, if they were built, would be the largest in France.
More than a year after Sainte-Soline, opponents of megabasins are once again mobilized. This time, they are protesting against a water reservoir project in the Limagne plain, in Puy-de-Dôme. This aims to build two huge basins, intended for the irrigation of 36 farms, particularly cereals.
Fight against “water appropriation”
When questioned, the demonstrators explained the reason for their protest: “We are fighting against the appropriation of water, which is still a good that should be for everyone.“, denounces a woman. According to the demonstrators, if they were built, these water reservoirs would be the largest in France, and would contain the equivalent of 500 Olympic swimming pools, taken from the Allier.
