MLS | Philadelphia Union advances to Eastern Conference Finals

(West Chester) Leon Flach hit the target for the first time this season and the Philadelphia Union shut out FC Cincinnati 1-0 on Thursday night to advance to the Eastern Conference final.

The Union, which has not lost at Subaru Park this season (13-0-5), is now awaiting the winner of Sunday’s duel between CF Montreal and New York City FC.

Flach opened the scoring at the 59e minute. Mikael Uhre sprinted past two defenders for a loose ball in front of the net and passed it to Flach, who fired an accurate first-line shot.

Goalkeeper Andre Blake recorded a 16e shutout this season. The Jamaican made five saves, including an important one at the expense of Brandon Vazquez, in the 83e minute.

FC Cincinnati, who finished fifth in the East, were coming off a 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls.
