MLS | Messi leads Inter Miami to victory, but leaves match due to injury

(Fort Lauderdale) Lionel Messi scored a goal and had an assist in Inter Miami’s 3-1 win, but left the game early against Nashville SC with a leg injury on Wednesday evening.

This was the return match between the two clubs, in the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Messi left at 50e minute. After the match, head coach Gerardo Martino said that his player suffered from a slight leg injury which started to bother him during the match. Inter Miami therefore removed him from the match as a preventive measure.

Messi did not face CF Montreal in his team’s 3-2 defeat last Sunday. It was the only match Messi had not played this season.

Martino said the Argentine star will likely miss his team’s regular season game Saturday against DC United.

“I don’t want to take that risk,” Martino said. He added that Messi will undergo medical tests and the team will assess the situation afterwards.

Robert Taylor took Messi’s place in the match and scored in the 63rde minute to make the score 3-0.
