(Milwaukee) The Oakland Athletics acquired Quebecer Abraham Toro from the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, giving up minor league right-hander Chad Patrick in return.
The 26-year-old Toro was eight for 18 (.444) in nine games with the Brewers this year.
He hit two home runs and drove in nine runs.
At the AAA level with Nashville, the infielder maintained a .291 average with eight long balls and 58 RBIs in 96 games.
Capable of hitting from both sides, Toro has a .211 average in five seasons in the big leagues. He had 28 home runs and 108 RBIs.
The Longueuil athlete also played with the Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners.
Toro will be eligible for salary arbitration if it receives a contract offer by Friday at 8 p.m.
