With Toronto up 3-2 and on the verge of a sweep, Romano initially conceded two singles and a walk. Adley Rutschman then hit a two-run single, before a one-run single from Jesus Aguilar.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cavan Biggio walked and George Springer drove him home with a double. The rise of the Jays, however, would stop there. Romano (5-4) squandered a save chance for the fifth time this season. Reliever Joey Krehbiel (5-4) scored the win, while Felix Bautista earned a 14e rescue.

The Orioles came within four and a half games of the Mariners, third in the trio that can reach the playoffs without a division title, in the American. Toronto leads this group, ahead of the Rays.

Vladimir Guerrero and Danny Jansen homered in a losing cause. Guerrero also slammed a double; he’s hit it safe in his last 12 games.

Alek Manoah did well, limiting Baltimore to one run and four hits over six innings.

Bored at the hip, Alejandro Kirk missed his fifth game in a row. Lourdes Gurriel was also at rest, with discomfort in the back of her thigh.

The game was played in front of 41,311 people at the Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays will play in Philadelphia on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s starting pitchers will be Ross Stripling (8-4) and Kyle Gibson (10-6).
