(Carlsbad) Liam Hendriks of the Chicago White Sox won his second straight Mariano Rivera Award on Wednesday, which is presented to American League Relief Pitcher of the Year, and Josh Hader of the Brewers won his third Trevor Award Hoffman as National League reliever of the year.
Hendriks was 8-3 and recorded 38 saves on 44 occasions, with an earned-run average of 2.54. He also struck out 113 batters in 71 innings in what was his first season with the White Sox.
For his part, Hader posted a 4-2 record and a career-high 1.23 earned-run average. He had 34 saves on 35 occasions and struck out 102 batters in 58 2/3 innings of work last season.
Hader also won the National League top reliever award in 2018 and 2019.
The vote took into account the performance of the regular season. The jury was made up of seven former relievers: Rivera, Hoffman, Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Lee Smith, John Franco and Billy Wagner.
