The 31-year-old came on to lead the first base for the Giants in the third inning after Antoan Richardson was ejected in a game against the San Diego Padres.
When she was announced as the replacement, Nakken received a round of applause from the crowd — as well as a handshake from Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer.
Nakken previously held that role during spring camp and in a July 2020 Grapefruit Leagues meeting against the Oakland Athletics. She had also regained her position during the next day’s game.
“You feel a certain pride to be here,” Nakken said at the time. For me, it’s the best place to watch a game, that’s for sure. »
The former star of the University of Sacramento softball team, became the first woman to get a Major League Baseball coaching job when she joined manager Gabe Kapler in January 2020.
