At least that’s what MLB Network reported on Monday, saying the Toronto organization contacted the outfielder’s agent after the Dodgers refused to offer him salary arbitration.
The Blue Jays are to replace outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, whom they traded to the Seattle Mariners for pitchers Erik Swanson and Adam Macko last week.
Bellinger was voted the National League’s Most Valuable Player in 2019, but his offensive performance has been on the decline ever since. He has posted batting averages of .305, .239, .165 and .210 over the past four seasons.
The 27-year-old American did nothing to boost his market value in the playoffs, as he only hit one small hit in the divisional series. The San Diego Padres also won in four games.
