Austria and Germany finished the final tied 2-2, but Stefan Brennsteiner and Katharina Liensberger won their downhill in a faster combined time than Lena Duerr and Alexander Schmid.
Austria won the silver medal in this discipline at the PyeongChang Games in 2018. It was the first presentation of this discipline at the Olympics.
The mixed team parallel slalom event was postponed for a day after gusts of up to 65 kilometers per hour swept the track on Saturday.
Weather conditions were calmer on Sunday, with winds reaching 40 kilometers per hour. Temperatures, however, decreased to -20 degrees Celsius.
The Canadian team was eliminated in the first round.
Mikaela Shiffrin and Team USA missed the bronze medal by 42 hundredths of a second after losing to Norway.
Shiffrin, who was medalless in five individual events in Beijing, lost three of his four runs during the team mixed parallel slalom competition. She was notably defeated by Thea Louise Stjernesund in the consolation final.
The mixed team event pits groups of up to six skiers against parallel giant slalom courses – men versus men and women versus women. There are four runs per contest and there are 16 teams entered.
