If you have a heart condition, your doctor will probably not recommend a Stade Rennes match. The Bretons got away with it on Saturday April 9, but had all the trouble in the world to get rid of eye-catching Rémois at the end of the match (2-3). A narrow but crucial success for Rennes, now second in Ligue 1 before Marseille’s match against Montpellier on Sunday.

There are those matches for which the manner does not matter, as long as the result follows. Bruno Génésio and his evocative satisfaction at the final whistle will easily be satisfied with this victory in Reims. Even without bursting the screen, the Rennais still scored three goals, consolidating their status as the best attack (67 goals). Martin Terrier scored his eighteenth pawn on the exercise, making him the second artificer in the elite, behind Kylian Mbappé (20 goals).

But on arrival, apart from a few flashes fired by the infernal Benjamin Bourigeaud, double scorer (40th and 43rd), the overall copy is just passable. Rennes stopped playing after their third goal (58th) and could have paid dearly for it. Stade de Reims is back in the game thanks to Maxime Busi (60th), of a head on which the doorman Dogan Alemdar is not exempt from any reproach. Already decisive in the first act, the Turk then largely caught up with Moussa Doumbia (78th) on penalty.

On the other hand, he could not do anything against Jens Cadjus (81st) on a new penalty whistled a few minutes later. Curled up in his area, Rennes then suffered, but held on, despite the incessant activity of Ghislain Konan on the left side of Reims. Ineffective offensively and undermined by defensive errors on the three goals, the Champenois are treading water in 13th place.

Even on alternating current, the Breton club jumped in the standings. This victory allows the new dolphin to count five points ahead of Nice and Strasbourg, fourth and fifth. Rennes are keeping their rivals for a place in the Champions League at bay, and that’s the main thing.
