Mississauga | Man arrested after possible assault at mosque

(Mississauga) Police say they arrested a man after he entered a mosque in Mississauga, Ont., and allegedly sprayed an unknown substance.

Peel Regional Police say the incident happened just before 7 a.m. Saturday morning. She mentioned having received information that the man also had a weapon.

In a Facebook post, the Dar Al-Tawheed Islamic Center says an individual entered the mosque allegedly armed “with an ax and carrying numerous other sharp weapons, as well as pepper spray” during a morning prayer .

The mosque says several worshipers were able to “stop him in his tracks” before he could inflict damage on worshipers.

According to police, minor injuries were reported as a result of the spraying. Authorities add that the man has been taken into custody.

The investigation is continuing.
