Mission Cleopatra”, the incredible decision of Alain Chabat!

Released in 2002, “Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” remains, to this day, the comedy inspired by the story of the famous Gauls which has gathered the most spectators in the cinema. More than twenty years after its release and a few months after the release of“Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Empire” by Guillaume Canet, Alain Chabat wanted to bring it up to date. Thus, his “baby” returned to French cinemas this Wednesday, July 5, at the price of 5 euros.

Despite the fact that the film has already been broadcast, this comedy, notably bringing together Jamel Debbouze, Christian Clavier and Gérard Darmon, has once again attracted many fans. According to Destination Ciné, 47,637 people came to see the adventures of the famous Gauls in Egypt. Although fans of the film directed by Alain Chabat know the lines by heart, they were nevertheless treated to many surprises.

Alain Chabat and his surprises at the end of the film

Indeed, like the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the new version of“Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” reserved a surprise for the spectators who answered present, namely two additional sequences after the famous end credits, as noticed by our colleagues from Parisian. “Thank you to those who read the credits to the end (but you have to go back now, don’t you have a home?)”, could we read a few minutes after the end of the film, thus inviting the “diehard” fans to leave the cinema.

However, this sentence was indeed present to test the fans. In effect, “after the usual thanks, Alain Chabat appears, torch in hand, in the pyramids to announce bonuses. Two gifts, already present in the DVD when it was released twenty years ago, which only three people were able to take advantage of in the room this Wednesday”notes our colleagues, but that’s not all.

We also find Omar Sy, accompanied by his faithful sidekick Fred Testot, who play the painters and debate the spelling and grammar of hieroglyphics. This scene was initially present in the original film before being cut during editing. After the sequence of the famous duo, it is Edouard Baer who delivers his famous monologue in the skin of Otis, in a longer and new version. These surprises will delight fans.
