Spotlight on the Contestants

This year, 30 remarkable women, each representing their respective regions, are set to compete for the esteemed title. Initially, there were to be 31 participants, but one region opted out due to ongoing tensions. Among the frontrunners is Marina Przadka, representing Picardie, who excelled in the general knowledge test during a preparation trip in Côte d’Ivoire last month. Other standout contestants include Zaya Toumbou (Miss Mayotte), daughter of a renowned singer, Stella Vangioni, known for her role in the series Un si grand soleil, and Sabah Aib, crowned Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais 2024, who has bravely confronted online racism.

Moïra André’s Commitment to Change

Moïra André is one contestant who is already making waves. Similarly, Jade Benazech, crowned Miss Languedoc, shares her story of resilience. She recalls her childhood experiences with bullying, stating, ‘As a child, I was bullied so it’s a bit of a revenge and a pride’. Standing tall at 1.82 meters, she was teased for her height and features. Reflecting on her transformative high school experience, she revealed, ‘In high school, everything changed because I made new friends and strengthened my character.’ Jade has expressed her desire to advocate for the wisdom of ancestors, emphasizing the importance of supporting them and combating their solitude.

On the other hand, Miss Guadeloupe 2024, another strong contender, has her own mission. At 28 years old, she works as a digital advisor at her island’s departmental council. Moïra André is passionate about the arts and has been proactive in addressing digital illiteracy. She shared, ‘I have been fighting against digital illiteracy for three years. I help those who have difficulties using digital tools.’ Her personal story includes the impact of her older brother leaving home at a young age to pursue a career in professional basketball.

Aiming for Guadeloupe’s Fifth Win?

Moïra André is determined to fulfill her promise of raising awareness about digital literacy in her community. She confidently stated, ‘As Miss Guadeloupe 2024, I would like to continue raising awareness among the population about the use of new technologies through workshops, something I am already doing thanks to my job.’ The last Guadeloupean to claim the title of Miss France was Indira Ampiot in 2022, and before her, Véronique de la Cruz (1993), Corinne Coman (2003), and Clémence Botino (2020) also held the honor. Moïra shared her unique connection with these former queens, stating, ‘I met all of them. The 4 Miss Guadeloupe elected Miss France were members of the jury for my election.’ She admires Véronique de la Cruz for being a trailblazer as the first Miss Guadeloupe and the first black woman to win the title.
