Miss France 2022: Miss Aquitaine, “disappointed with the result”, reacts to the controversy over her hairstyle

Saturday December 11, 2021, they were 29 to claim the new crown of Miss France. It was ultimately Diane Leyre (Miss Île-de-France) who was elected, thanks to the jury’s notes and not to the votes of the public. The pretty 24-year-old brunette had sizeable competitors in front of her, including the pretty Amber Andrieu (Miss Aquitaine). The latter was also not unworthy by winning the place of the 5th runner-up of Miss France, despite a somewhat missed look.

Indeed, many Internet users have noted that Amber Andrieu’s hairstyle was very different from that of his portrait. She who displayed a superb afro cut finally appeared more or less straightened hair. A choice on the part of the main interested party to believe the words of Sylvie Tellier in Do not touch My TV Monday evening. “We tell them: ‘You have hairdressers, makeup artists who are there to sublimate you. You don’t leave your hair and make-up job unless you like it ”“, she had assured.

However, Miss Aquitaine was far from being satisfied when it came time to take the stage as she recognized during an interview for SHE. “I am disappointed with the result, this is not what I wanted… It’s far from like me. I felt on stage that there was something wrong with my cut, but I put that aside. (…) I regret this hairstyle, I would have liked to be told and taken back. I would have liked to see myself. It was hard for me, but it’s nobody’s fault“, she expressed.

A single dressing table for textured hair

However, there is indeed a fault in the eyes of Internet users, who have pointed the finger at the Miss France committee for a form of trivialized racism. Charges that Ambre Andrieu does not support at all. “We had a specialized hairdresser, so it touches me that she takes criticism and that she is accused of racism, when she is also black and she did her best.“, she defended. The 22-year-old Miss nevertheless regrets the lack of staff to take care of afro hair.”There was only one dressing table on site for textured hair, while there were five or six to possess this nature during the whole part before the passage of the fifteen“, she noted. A more complete staff would then have been a game-changer for Amber.”Perhaps we could have avoided this kind of situation, where I don’t feel beautiful at the fifteen level. France is diverse and varied: there are black skins, dark skins, North African skins. They are not the same needs“, she recalled to conclude.
