“Mise au vert”, a refreshing family comedy in the sumptuous settings of the Vercors

With this first feature film focused on economics, Yohann Charrin questions contemporary society in a crazy and exotic comedy.

Through the adventures of a small family on vacation in the depths of the Vercors, Yohann Charrin humorously depicts contemporary themes such as the couple’s crisis, the return to nature, decline, alter-globalization and community life, or even hyper connection. First self-financed film shot in record time, Going green hits theaters on September 20.

Régis Blondin (Frederick Guillaud) decided to do “a huge surprise” his family. Without telling his wife Claire (Alexandra Holzhammer)nor his two children Charlotte and Benoît, he takes everyone to the Vercors for the holidays.

Her relationship is struggling, her two teenagers are addicted to screens. He is counting on this little “go green” to patch things up with his wife, and he is delighted to introduce his loved ones to this beautiful region in which he spent all his summers during his childhood.

New rurality

But when Régis and his family finally arrive at the small house inherited from his family, isolated in the depths of the woods, it’s another “huge surprise” who is waiting for them. A joyful troupe of cool anti-globalization joint-smoking babas, led by Jicé (Stéphane Roux), an outsider, squat the place. Surprises, Régis will have others: Léon (Jean-François Balmer)Régis’ old uncle, also has a nice twist in store for his nephew.

This beautiful, remote region is now divided more or less peacefully between the local people on one side, and the “neorurals” on the other. The director greedily sketches this stormy cohabitation, showcasing two visions of the world, without sparing either one or the other, the Blondin family in the middle. With this first feature film, Yohann Charrin transports us from the first images to the magnificent landscapes of the Vercors plateaus. In these sumptuous settings, he enjoys portraying his little family of Parisians who discover, between joys and disappointments, the realities of a rural world that Régis had somewhat idealized, and which has changed a lot since his childhood.

Back to basics

By returning to his region, Régis wanted to teach his wife and children a lesson. Claire, Charlotte and Benoît quickly adapt to this place without water, without electricity, without network, but with dry toilets and happy companies. It is ultimately for Régis himself that this return to his origins reserves the most disappointments but also some nice surprises.

The confrontation with ways of thinking other than his own and the unexpected revelation of a family secret shake his convictions, provoking a small revolution which will perhaps offer him a chance to reconnect his life in a different way.

The protagonists of this choral adventure, drawn in broad strokes like comic strip characters, are played by a troupe of committed actors, professional or beginner comedians and inhabitants of the Vercors sharing the bill.

Lively dialogues, careful photography, lively editing punctuated by a joyful soundtrack… This first independent film, shot economically in 18 days, produced without assistance, offers, in the spirit of popular French comedy, a mischievous and offbeat on topics at the heart of the news. A delightful and exotic “go green” to share with the family.
