Misconduct | Which sports personality would you like to write the biography of?

Sports journalists from The Press answer a question with pleasure

Mathias Brunet

I don’t hate biographies of former equipment managers in the hockey world. On the other hand, if I were asked to choose an athlete, I would probably choose Didier Drogba. I love these athletes whose history transcends sport. Drogba was one of the greatest athletes to come from Africa. He showered himself with glory at Chelsea in the English Premier League, but his exploits in the Ivory Coast qualifier in 2005 and his public appeal for calm afterwards helped ease tempers in this horrible civil war which had been tearing the country apart for three years. The backstage of international football fascinates me. Our hockey players are light years away from what great soccer stars can experience. Isn’t Ronaldo getting ready to sign a contract worth 200 million euros a year? A chapter of Drogba’s story unfolds in Montreal, between visits to Dunkirk, Le Mans, Marseille, Chelsea, Shanghai, Galatasaray in Turkey, Phoenix and of course Africa. A great athlete and a great man.

Guy Carbonneau with the Montreal Canadiens in 1991

Guy Carbonneau. He was a player, captain and coach of the Canadiens. He knew the rivalry with the Nordics. He won the Stanley Cup twice here, and once in Dallas. And then, after his dismissal as head coach, the incredible year of the centenary, he declared: “One day, the truth will come out…” On whom? On what ? Guy, my cell is open!

Bob Hartley

Bob Hartley. I would spend hours digging up his most memorable quotes. I would like to relate his President Cup, his Calder Cup, his Gagarin Cup, his Stanley Cup. But above all, above all, I would like to tell in detail his spat with Patrice Brisebois in the series Montreal, Quebec ! the fun that we would have. Honorable mention to Alex Kovalev, whom I admired from the age of 12; it would be an honor to dive back into his career.

Deion Sanders

Is there an athlete as fascinating as Deion Sanders? The answer is yes, definitely. The fact remains that what he accomplished during his career and even during his post-career has marked the imagination. An eccentric talker, he would undoubtedly have a ton of anecdotes to tell. Especially since what he has achieved on the pitch is out of the ordinary. What did I say ? On THE grounds. Sanders has excelled in two sports, at the highest level, at the same time. Cornerback for 14 seasons in the NFL and outfielder for 9 seasons in the MLB, he is the only athlete in history to have played in the Super Bowl and in the World Series. After his phenomenal career, he became a television analyst for American networks, but above all the head coach of the Jackson State University football team. He helped this establishment to regain its letters of nobility and to attract the best hopes to the country. He is one of the most prominent college coaches. Who knows if he might make his way back to the NFL?

NHL player agent Pat Brisson

There would no doubt be crazy anecdotes and very crisp stories if it were possible to chat a little (and a lot) with Pat Brisson. The Quebecer is of course one of the most prominent agents in the entire NHL, but in addition, he is a central figure in the history of Wayne Gretzky in California, a story marked by the most spectacular transaction of all the history. hockey history, which made the star player from the Edmonton Oilers to the Los Angeles Kings in the summer of 1988. Now, it will be necessary to convince Pat to say yes…

Former wrestler Ric Flair (right) and his daughter Charlotte

Some know it, I have a passion for the world of wrestling. For what happens in the square circle, and what happens behind the scenes. I have also developed a healthy obsession for the documentary series Dark Side of the Ring which allows ordinary mortals to dive into the heart of the most implausible stories of the most implausible environment. And among these most unlikely actors, there is certainly Richard Morgan Fliehr, the Nature Boy Ric Flair in person. Flair has been through every abuse possible, probably thousands of circumstances that would have cost him his job in 2022, he no doubt has a robust record full of borderline stuff on just about every wrestler in history. I have this incredible feeling that the famous “Plane Ride from Hell” wouldn’t even do the top 10 of the juiciest portions of his biography. And for a biographer, that’s not bad, the definition of happiness.

Calling all

And you, which sports personality would you like to read the biography of and why?
