Misconduct | Mount Rushmore of 2000s Athletes: Your Answers

Last week, we asked you who the four greatest athletes of the 2000s were. Here are some of the answers we got.

Posted at 7:00 a.m.

Usain Bolt: there was no one more dominant than him in the 100m and 200m during his period of activity. Lionel Messi: He didn’t win the World Cup (it’s still a team sport), but he was almost always the best player on the pitch while constantly under incredible pressure. Mikaël Kingsbury: no one has dominated freestyle mogul skiing as much as he has since this sport has existed. He set almost all the records in his sport. Serena Williams: Probably the greatest athlete since the early 2000s. She wasn’t always the best, but once she managed to polish her game, it was very hard to stop her.

Michael Phelps

Roger Federer, LeBron James, Tiger Woods and Michael Phelps. These four athletes have lasted over time, they have changed their sport, they have dominated it, they have been the face of a generation. But above all, they have given the taste of practicing their sport to millions of children (and adults) from all continents.

Debate it fun. You can’t have Roger Federer on Mount Rushmore when two of his contemporaries have won more Grand Slams than him. Likewise for Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus has won more major tournaments. And then, if we can’t decide between Messi and Ronaldo, or Kobe, James and Curry, it’s because there is matter for debate. The indisputable ones, with supporting figures, are Usain Bolt, Serena Williams, Michael Phelps and Tom Brady.

I agree with Katherine Harvey-Pinard: Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Tiger Woods and Tom Brady (even if I don’t like her personally).

Albert Pujols

You all missed out on one of the greatest performances of the 2000s. With a rich history, baseball is one of the sports that requires the most skill. Albert Pujols has risen to the rank of the greatest!

Simon Poirier

Personally I am thinking of individual sports. Tiger Woods for his dominance of his sport. Michael Phelps was an incredible swimmer for many years. Usain Bolt for his gold medals at two Olympics held. Finally I would opt for Roger Federer, the greatest of all time in tennis.

Richard Cantin

Usain Bolt, Tom Brady, Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid.

Marie-Philip Poulin

For fun, I present to you my Mount Rushmore of the athletes of the 2000s, a version that wants to be all feminine! Serena Williams, how can you ignore such a career on the courts where she won everything, 23 Grand Slam titles and 4 Olympic gold medals. Lindsey Vonn has taken to the ski slopes by storm and won 82 Alpine Skiing World Cup victories with 4 large crystal globes, 20 small globes and 3 Olympic medals, including gold in Vancouver. Marie-Philip Poulin and her three gold medals (and one silver) won thanks to three winning goals on her part. Katie Ledecky, this great swimmer already has 10 Olympic medals (7 gold and 3 silver) and is only 25 years old!

Mathieu Pauze

Lewis Hamilton, Tom Brady, Cristiano Ronaldo, Usain Bolt, in any order.

Mikael Kingsbury

Allow me to turn my spotlight on Quebec athletes who, in my opinion, have nothing to envy to the LeBron James and Tom Brady of this world. Mikaël Kingsbury, with his 3 Olympic medals including 1 gold, his 6 world championship titles and his 104 World Cup podiums. Clara Hughes (yes, she was born in Winnipeg, but she made Quebec her home) with her four Olympic medals in speed skating, but also two bronze medals in cycling at the Summer Games. Patrice Bergeron, the Boston Bruins’ leader par excellence, with a Stanley Cup, two Olympic gold medals and a record five Selke trophies. Finally, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, football player and doctor, who succeeded in two high-level disciplines. Medical degree in 2018 and Super Bowl winner in 2020.

Claude Crépeau

I intentionally eliminate team sports. My picks are Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Roger Federer and Tiger Woods. I would add Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge in fifth place.

Raymond Labelle

Here are my picks: Tom Brady, Sidney Crosby, Serena Williams and Roger Federer.
