Around noon, Thursday July 13, the passengers of a TGV Annecy-Paris had a big fright. A man sowed panic by trying at all costs to get out of the train, launched at full speed. A plainclothes policeman intervened. A shot was fired, but no one was injured.

It was almost noon, Thursday July 13, in a TGV which linked Annecy (Haute-Savoie) to Paris, when a very agitated passenger absolutely tried to get out of the train, launched at full speed. He tried to break a window, using an emergency hammer. A controller and a policeman, in civilian clothes and armed, tried to control him. A struggle ensued, and the policeman then had his weapon stolen.

The man taken into custody

A shot was then fired, injuring no one. The train stopped at Montceau-les-Mines (Saône-et-Loire), and the man was handed over to the gendarmes. The security forces first took him to the hospital, before he was taken into custody for the attempted murder of a person in charge of public authority. If the man was able to be controlled, it was thanks to a police officer carrying his weapon while he was off duty. He was traveling with the “Travel, protect” system launched in 2022.
