Ministers meet at Matignon, new transfers of power expected Monday morning

It’s back to school for the new government. Michel Barnier receives his team at 8 am composed of 39 ministers and secretaries of state, Monday, September 23 at Matignon, for a breakfast. This meeting launches a day that will continue with the traditional ceremonies of transfer of power in the ministries. The members of the government will then meet around Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée at 3 p.m., for the first Council of Ministers. Follow our live coverage.

A round of handovers. A first handover took place on Sunday at the Ministry of Economy, where Antoine Armand replaced Bruno Le Maire. Other ceremonies will take place on Monday, notably at the Ministry Justice (10 a.m.), Foreign Affairs (10:30 a.m.) and National Education (11 a.m.).

Michel Barnier has announced his roadmap. The Prime Minister spoke on France 2 on Sunday evening and first called for “cohesion” And “brotherhood” within his government, promising “compromise” “for the progress of the country”He then covered subjects dear to the French: taxes, pensions, women’s and LGBT rights or mental health.

Insufficient guarantees for the left. “Michel Barnier did not say a word about poverty. He did not propose anything in the face of the ecological emergency”reacted the rebellious vice-president of the National Assembly, Clémence Guetté. The New Popular Front has already planned to draft a motion of censure which will be filed by the socialists after the general policy speech of the new Prime Minister, announced the head of the PS, Olivier Faure. This motion needs the votes of the RN to be validated.
