“Cooking classes have to come back to school.” Interviewed by readers of South WestFriday September 15, the Minister Delegate in charge of SMEs, Commerce, Crafts and Tourism, Olivia Grégoire, said she was in favor of the introduction of cooking classes in schools, while she was questioned on food inflation. “I also believe that we need to relearn how to cook raw products, to avoid buying ‘ready-made’ products, which are more expensive”believes the minister. “There is a real challenge (…) of education in everyday cooking”adds Olivia Grégoire.
Comments which immediately sparked controversy on the left. “If there is no bread, eat brioche”thus joked about X (ex-Twitter) the leader of La France insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon. “I don’t even want to laugh about it anymore. Every week, one of them reveals their subconscious: social contempt instead of justice”, for his part wrote on the same social network the boss of the PS, Olivier Faure. The head of the PCF list in the European elections, Léon Deffontaines, also mocked the minister’s proposal. “Faced with the rise in the price of a liter of gasoline, Olivia Grégoire recommends riding lessons”he criticized.
Faced with this start of controversy, the minister reacted in a message on X, criticizing the wording of BFMTV.
Regrettable to summarize in a few words and in a tweet lending controversy to a message that is nevertheless common sense: favoring raw products over processed products is good for health and for the wallet, and not only in periods of inflation. https://t.co/XZvGBcb4YN
