During a meeting in Dusseldorf, Germany, G7 digital ministers agreed to pool their expertise to fend off cyber attackers and protect critical infrastructure from digital technologists.

Mr. Champagne says cybersecurity was at the center of the discussions.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov participated in the meeting virtually. According to the Canadian minister, this presence has strengthened the G7’s desire to help Ukraine, which is still struggling with the Russian invader.

Mr. Champagne underlined that the discussions revolved around the lessons to be drawn from the events in Ukraine and the misadventures of other countries having suffered cyberattacks.

He added that a digital task force would help better prepare Canada and its allies against potential cyberattacks, today and tomorrow.

Russia has been accused of launching cyberattacks abroad and carrying out disinformation campaigns since the start of the invasion of Ukraine.
