Caroline Cayeux, the new Minister of Territorial Communities, regrets her remarks on marriage for all, which she describes today as “stupid”. In 2013, she spoke of “design that goes against nature”, words she still maintained at the start of the week.

Minister for only ten days, Caroline Cayeux, in charge of local authorities, is already in turmoil. Her past catches up with her. In 2013, she made remarks against same-sex marriage, which she considered “against nature”. Asked about Public SenateTuesday, July 12, on her statements, she assured that she “obviously maintains [s]are you about”before adding: “I have many friends, among all these people.”

A clumsy defense, which caused the incomprehension of several ministers and angered the LGBT community. Six associations filed a complaint against the minister for public insult. “It does not pass, really. I think she should not be a minister”, commented Terrence Khatchadourian, secretary general of the Stop Homophobia association. Caroline Cayeux sent a letter to anti-homophobia associations on Thursday July 14, and spoke in the press on Friday to come back to her remarks. “I obviously no longer recognize myself in them today”, she assured. 80 personalities, including a dozen elected members of the majority, are preparing a forum to be published over the weekend, to denounce the minister’s homophobic remarks.
