Minister Bonnardel wants to attack the “cowards” who use GHB

The Government of Quebec is implementing a series of measures to attack the “scourge” of GHB and the “cowards” who put it in the glasses of people – mainly women – without their knowledge.

An awareness campaign will be launched to remind people that it is criminal to act in this way. The Minister of Public Security, François Bonnardel, wants action to be taken in bars and restaurants to familiarize them with the best prevention and intervention practices.

We also want to provide better support for people who believe they have been drugged without their knowledge and better equip police forces to deal with people intoxicated with GHB or other drugs.

The government has already launched the “Check your glass” pilot project by distributing 10,000 lids that protect glasses in bars in Montreal. We plan to implement this preventive measure elsewhere in Quebec.

It is difficult to know how many people suffer poisonings of this kind in Quebec. The government wants to work with police forces to better document the phenomenon.
