(New York) Hunter Biden, the son of the American president, has dropped his complaint against the Fox News channel, which he was suing over a series recounting his mock trial using intimate images of him, according to a court document.
No reason is given for the withdrawal of the complaint in this memo from Hunter Biden’s lawyers, dated Sunday, the day his father announced his withdrawal from the White House.
Fox News declined to comment, but said it had called the lawsuit “entirely politically motivated” and “baseless.”
The Trial of Hunter Bidena six-episode miniseries, was broadcast in 2022 on Fox Nation, the platform streaming from the favorite channel of American conservatives, owned by the Murdoch family media empire.
The program warned viewers of the fictional nature of the trial, while imagining Joe Biden’s son being prosecuted for international corruption, accusations that have been made for years by Trump supporters who point to Hunter Biden’s past business ties with Ukraine and China. These accusations have so far never led to legal proceedings.
The series also used footage of Hunter Biden naked and having sex, to “humiliate” him, [le] harass, [le] hurt and tarnish [sa] reputation,” the complaint alleged.
The images came from a laptop that Hunter Biden dropped off at a computer repair shop but never picked up. Its contents have since circulated, while also being the subject of widespread conspiracy theories.
Hunter Biden filed a complaint in early July for pornographic disclosure, unjust enrichment and moral damage.
Known for having suffered for years from addictions to alcohol, cocaine and crack, the son of the American president was convicted in June of illegal possession of a firearm in a federal trial that has brought back into the spotlight this period of his life.
