(Toronto) Some workers in Ontario will get a wage hike this week as the minimum wage hike goes into effect in the province on Saturday.
Employees at the bottom of the scale will see their hourly rate drop from $ 14.35 to $ 15. In the case of waiters in bars, the hourly rate will drop from $ 12.55 to $ 15.
Students under the age of 18, who work 28 hours or less per week, will now earn $ 14.10 instead of $ 13.50.
According to official data from the province, between January and November 2021, approximately 767,000 employees earned the minimum rate or less in Ontario.
This pay rise comes as labor shortages are hitting many industries and companies are struggling with inflation and difficulty recruiting new talent.
